Q. I painted my deck with primer and water-based paint. This year, the paint has chipped off and the wood is showing. What should I do to get an attractive and lasting result?
Corey – Brandon, Manitoba
Water-based latex primers and paints are not recommended for pressure-treated wood decking. It will not prevent the tannins from seeping through―especially where there are knots―and will result in the paint eventually flaking and peeling off. In addition, new decking should not be painted or stained for at least 6 months to allow the wood to completely dry out.
